COVID-19 IN INDIA:

During the 2 months of lockdown, India has seen a lot of ups and downs with mixed emotions of sadness and rage towards COVID-19, ranging from the unforgettable unity of Indians holding candles and flashlights and even standing in balconies clapping for the Corona fighters to the day when the unforgettable Tablighi Jamaat incident happened, we have gone through every possible situation during this lockdown period.
We started the count with a mere 30 cases and now have crossed the 1,00,000 barrier of positive cases to date. The government is also doing its best to make the people aware of this highly contagious disease, and the positive results are now showing up. People are taking Social Distancing very seriously and are giving their hygiene practices a much higher consideration than ever before.

COVID-19 & DIABETES IN INDIA:

With the increase of relative death rates in India due to COVID-19, people are suggested to maintain a proper fitness regime in order to boost up their immunity, making the people less prone to   COVID-19.

But in recent studies it has been found that the risk of a fatal outcome is 50% higher in diabetics, and many Endocrinologists also added, that the people suffering from diabetes can suffer from immunodeficiency disorders leading to severe symptoms and complications for COVID-19. This could turn lethal if they failed to maintain a proper metabolic control.

Why might COVID-19 be more dangerous for Diabetics? (Let’s dive in) …

When a person suffers from diabetes it doesn’t just simply affect the glucose levels in the body but also affects the insulin production levels in the body.

This results in:

  1. Lower immunity.
  2. Less than normal blood flow, which makes it difficult for the body to harness nutrients.
  3. Due to the weakened immune system, diabetics are more susceptible to infections and chronic diseases.
  4. Diabetes can also lead to damaged circulatory system which slows down the healing effects of the blood from getting to and from these areas.
  5. Even the high blood flow can make people prone to viral infections, longer hospitalization, and prolonged recovery.

Earlier COVID-19 was considered as a less harmful virus, but it has turned out to a microscopic epitome of the devil for the human race. Everyone now should be aware of COVID-19 & its ill effects, but the people with immunodeficiency disorders like diabetes must ensure an all-round protection for themselves because both COVID-19 & DIABETES together results in a much lethal condition and can be dangerous for the people living in INDIA where more than 62 million people are affected by diabetes.
